The Matter of Theology: A Conversation with the Collection
Saturday, March 22, 2008 - Sunday, September 12, 2010
The exhibition pairs selections from the museum’s permanent collection with theological questions about spirituality and meaning. Groupings of objects that span cultures and time periods are placed in the context of various inquiries such as “What makes a place sacred?” and “How do objects serve as intermediaries between the human and the divine?” Visitors bring to the exhibition what they know and believe, what they wonder and doubt. The exhibition asks that viewers take time to consider meaning, purpose, self-transcendence, and destiny through the conversations between the objects and their various contexts.
