New Painting
Friday, February 22, 2019 - Tuesday, May 28, 2019
All made within ten years of one another and acquired in the last five years, this group of five paintings by artists Monika Baer, Richard Hawkins, Barkley Hendricks, Titus Kaphar, and Kehinde Wiley, offers an intimate meditation on the connections between personal narrative, social identity, and representation. Shown together, they reflect some of the museum’s recent collecting priorities around contemporary painting, portraiture, materiality, process, and diversifying our holdings to reflect more inclusive art historical narratives.
